A Dose of Sara Kardan, Co-Founder of Majesty's Pleasure
Introducing Sara Kardan, co-founder of Majesty's Pleasure, our second feature this month on "A Dose of...", where we feature beauty enthusiasts on how they seek pleasure and build their own pleasure ritual.
Obtaining pleasure begins with discomfort. You’ve probably heard this a thousand times before, but as a refresher, you must change who you are right now to get to where you want to be. Hearing about people successfully shifting gears from one lifestyle to the next can feel like something that only happens to influencers on social media, far away from any of our actual lives. However, we actually have a story of change right here at our home — meet the co-founder of Majesty’s Pleasure, Sara Kardan.
Sara has had a life full of changes starting at age 7, when she and her family moved from Tehran, Iran, to Canada. Being a new kid in any school is difficult, but Sara faced the obstacle of re-learning practically everything as a kid in a new culture. Despite this, Sara pushed through the discomfort and eventually obtained a master’s degree in Interior Design and Architecture.
Her love of beautiful spaces brought her to her degree, but Sara knew that something was still missing. In Persian culture, a host doesn’t just want to make their guests feel welcome; they want to make their guests feel at home. Sara felt that this hospitality (that was so heavily engrained in her fabric) was missing from most wellness spaces. So, she took another leap in life and quit her full-time job as an architect to begin Majesty’s Pleasure. Here, she could finally marry her two passions: creating luxurious interiors while making people feel comfort and ease.
There’s pleasure in accomplishing your goals, especially when looking back on all the hurdles you had to overcome. Still, those aren’t the only pleasures in life — we sat down with Sara to chat about how she taps into small pleasures every day.
What's your pleasure ritual?
I absolutely love being able to start my day off with exercise. It makes me feel healthy, strong, focused and clear-headed. As a working mom of two kids, alone time is hard to come by, so being able to workout at home, alone and enjoy a healthy homemade breakfast in the morning means everything to me. I’m a better version of myself when I make this happen.
What are your favourite beauty/skincare products at the moment?
One of my favourite things to talk about is products and packaging, there is just so much innovation and creativity out there! I have a bunch on the go I’m loving right now, less makeup and more skincare, I would say: Cutie Cuticle Oil, Sidia Hand Cream, Nudeskin Hydra-Peptide Lip Butter, Agent Nateur Holi (Bright) REsurface Glass Face Mask, Nudeskin Nudescrean Daily Mineral Veil SPF 30 (nude), Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer, 111Skin Rose Gold Illuminating Eye Mask and the Nudeskin Lemon-aid Detox & Glow Micro Peel.
What are your go-to nail looks?
Since we’ve started offering GEL-X Nail Extensions, they’ve been my go-to service. I love the length and strength of them, plus they keep me feeling sexy and feminine. I love that when date night comes around or I have an important meeting, I have long beautiful nails, it feels like an extension of my personality. Right now my go-to colours are classic reds, metallics and of course, gold chrome for the holiday season.
What’s your cocktail of the moment?
Ever since turning 40, I’m enjoying bubbles more! I’ve been living by the phrase: “life is too short not to celebrate every moment”. So I reach for a glass of champagne or prosecco, anytime, breakfast, brunch or dinner. For cocktails, I love whiskey, so a whiskey sour or maybe a half-sweet old-fashioned at a beautiful cocktail bar sounds perfect.
How do you seek pleasure?
I find pleasure in a lot of the research I do for the brand and business. I love being inspired by design, fashion, beauty, travel, and people. I find pleasure in being innovative, hopeful and thinking about the future, as strange as that may sound. I also really love products and packaging. With 2024 right around the corner, I’m excited for us to start sharing some of our ideas as we launch our own products here in Canada and the U.S.
What are some of your guilty pleasures?
A bowl of truffle pasta, getting my hair dyed, a night out dancing with my girls, a nature walk with my family, a plane ride to a new place, falling asleep during a movie, Paris, to name a few. Though, I must say... I don’t think I feel as guilty enjoying these, because there’s nothing wrong with enjoying pleasure in different ways every now and then.
What are your greatest achievements this year?
The team was recognized for Best Manicure in 2023 by BlogTO this year. I was super proud of that accomplishment and it’s a wonderful achievement for our hard working artists. For personal achievements, I think committing to our expansionary efforts, signing a lease in New York and making further offers in other U.S cities is something I’m very proud of. On top of that we’ve done so much this year within the business, such as launching this magazine, the Pleasure Edit. It’s an amazing culmination of our curation efforts with nails, beauty, lifestyle and all things pleasure. It’s an incredible extension of our brand and just another amenity to enjoy with your service. And lastly, the launch of The Leisure Club, our exclusive membership offering. An Unlimited Gel Manicure membership, is such incredible value with an exciting club. None of this has been possible without the amazing people around me and we have so much more to come!
