If you, like many, find yourself not being able to go two days without your roots losing volume, you might be washing your hair more frequently to clean up the extra oiliness of your scalp. Or perhaps you find yourself using a few styling products to lock your hair into those touseled, bouncy curls that we’re all after these days. Either way, you might require a scalp detox.
We must not forget that the scalp is a part of our skin, much like the skin on our faces or hands. Hair follicles have oil glands that moisturize our heads and hair–much like how sebum moisturizes the skin on our faces. But, just how sebum can clog the pores on our noses to create blackheads or acne, oil on our scalps can lead to blocked hair follicles. Add in some clogging styling products, and you now have the perfect recipe for trapping your scalp.
This blockage can cause many unfortunate dilemmas for our strands: one can experience hair loss, loss of volume, an oily scalp, and even dandruff. The best way to avoid these hair care woes is through thorough a scalp detox. Think of it as the same way you exfoliate your face to get rid of makeup and oil buildup. For best results, we recommend using a scalp scrub in lew of shampoo once a week, once to twice a week thereafter for a healthy scalp and shiny strands. Relish in your new and healthy hair routine and say goodbye to any lingering grime that can cause a slew of problems down the road. Here are some of our favorite scalp scrubs we reach for when we need a bit of detoxification.
