Imagine the perfect morning routine: you wake up, and a perfect cup of coffee finds its way into your hand as you read the news and enjoy the calm before the storm of emails. Ah, bliss. Unfortunately, most of us typically wake up after having hit snooze one too many times only to rush our morning routines to get out the door. Or, more recently our work from home desk. We must remember that the morning routine sets the tone for the rest of the day ahead. Instead of running your daily marathon of tasks in the morning, consider these helpful tips for waking up and having a great start to your day.
MORNINGS START AT NIGHT
For us to have a substantial morning, we must start by going to sleep at a reasonable time every night. By going to sleep and waking up around the same time every day, we allow our circadian rhythms to regulate themselves, which significantly decreases anxiety and depression. To help regulate your sleep, consider using the bedtime feature on your phone to set a time for sleep and wakening every day.
MAKE YOUR BED
The simple task of making your bed and clearing clutter also helps to clear the mind of any confusion or stress. By starting the day with a tidy space, we are better able to plan our day efficiently instead of worrying about a mess.
QUIET INTROSPECTION IS YOUR FRIEND
The start of the day should be less of a chore and more of a time to set goals for ourselves. Wake up a little earlier than usual to set aside about ten minutes of quiet meditation. During this time, it is crucial to slow down and set fulfilling intentions for ourselves. Follow this with a cup of hot coffee or tea, and you are good to go.
