Deciding what colour to paint your nails is hard enough, but now you’re taking it one step further and treating each nail like a tiny little canvas waiting to be transformed into something beautiful – so what the heck do you get?! Truthfully, the possibilities are endless, but I’m going to ask you some questions to help navigate your creative process, so you leave Majesty’s Pleasure with the cutest nails possible!
Do you prefer a minimal design or something a little more bold? Try to think of your personal style and what aligns best with you. This will help dictate both your colour palette, as well as design choices. For me, I dress in bright colours, loud prints, and love a bit of glitter, so a bold manicure is my go-to.
Do you prefer a neutral mani, or a colourful one? Again, think of your personal style, and consider the colours you’re usually drawn to when painting your nails. If you typically stick within one colour family, you’re most likely comfortable having those colours on your nails, and they’d be a great way to ease yourself into nail art.
This is where we start to get creative! It’s time to decide what type of designs you like! Is it a french manicure? Something with negative space? Star or rhinestone decals perhaps? Nail art can be anything from colours abstractly applied to the nail, to the recreation of the texture of a crystal, to something as literal as a butterfly, and so on!
You should also keep in mind whether you’d like all your nails to match, or if you’d like them to be different from each other.
Now, your colour palette! If you’re not sure on what colours go best together, look for inspiration! Paintings, photographs, graphic design work are all great sources of colour inspiration. Some of my favourite places to get colour combo inspiration are graphic design accounts like @subliming.jpg and @quotesbychristie. Both are graphic designers and spend a good amount of time pairing colours to see what works best together. If you’re not sure what works best, see what colour pairings draw your eye from accounts like theirs, and use those colours in your nail art!
If you’re still not positive as to what you want, head over to the Majesty’s Pleasure instagram and see what others are getting! Sometimes, seeing what other people get helps you to imagine what is possible for your nails!
Still not sure? Ask your nail artist for their opinion! They’ll be able to offer design ideas, or translate an idea you have into something beautiful!
